WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Elmira College women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season this afternoon with a convincing 9-0 road victory against the Wildcats of the Pennsylvania College of Technology. Elmira was as close to perfect as it could be, as the Purple and Gold did not surrender a single game in today's victory (76-0).
Senior captain
Megan Fitzgerald '18 was one of three Soaring Eagles to win two matches today, which increased the Thomaston, Connecticut, native's four-year win total to 73. The 73 victories moved Fitzgerald into a two-way tie with former teammate, Ayaka Yoshino '16, for first place in EC history for career wins.
Fitzgerald opened today's contest by teaming up with
Katy Jewett '21 for a no nonsense 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. The duo improved to 5-1 at the top spot this season and increased their win streak to three consecutive matches.
Emily Green '18 and
Sarah Hill '19 rolled at No. 2 doubles, winning their match by an identical 8-0 score line. For Green and Hill, today's win was their first as a doubles team this season.
Although only two doubles matches took place on the court, Elmira entered the singles portion of the match with a 4-0 lead, as the Wildcats forfeited matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Singles action was just as straight forward as the doubles contests, as Elmira won all five available matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Fitzgerald, Green and Hill won their matches at the first, third and fourth positions, as the trio of Soaring Eagles ended the afternoon as double-winners.
Rookie
Eliza Johnson '21 collected her second singles victory in as many days, as the Sherrill, New York, native cruised at the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-0. Also picking up a singles win today was
Cheyanne Holwell '19, who was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the No. 5 spot. The win for Holwell was her first of the season.
