Women’s Tennis Drops Non-Conference Match to Fredonia, 7-2

Elmira College women's tennis fell in non-conference action on the road this afternoon to Fredonia, 7-2. The Blue Devils earned their seventh win of the season, which extended Fredonia's winning streak to six matches, while the Soaring Eagles suffered their sixth loss of the 2017 fall season.
 
Fredonia opened the match with two doubles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Eliza Johnson '21 and Cassie Brown '21 dropped a heartbreaker at the third position, as the pair of freshmen fell in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-2). EC's second doubles pairing of Emily Green '18 and Sarah Hill '19 came up short by an 8-2 final score.
 
Elmira's lone doubles point came at the No. 1 position, as Megan Fitzgerald '18 and Katy Jewett '21 continued their assault on opposing teams with an 8-3 victory. The EC duo improved to 7-1 on the year and extended their winning streak to five consecutive matches.
 
Singles action was controlled by the Blue Devils, who won five of the six matches. Earning Elmira's lone singles point was junior Danielle Bliss '19 at the No. 5 spot. The Belmont, New Hampshire, native edged her opponent by one break of serve in each set, as she claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory. The win was Bliss' first of the 2017-18 season and first since March 25, 2017, when she earned a win over Wells College during Elmira's spring invite at the Murray Athletic Center.
