SPENCERPORT, N.Y. --
Elmira College women's tennis nearly picked up its second win in as many days, but instead the Soaring Eagles would come up short on the road, as the EC women fell to The College at Brockport, 6-3. Elmira's Megan Fitzgerald '18 was a double-winner this afternoon, picking up her 67th career victory, just three shy of moving into second place in the EC record books for career wins.

Fitzgerald teamed up with rookie Katy Jewett '21 to secure an 8-4 win at first doubles to open today's action. The duo improved to 2-0 on the young season with today's victory.

Doubles matches at second and third went right down to the wire, as tiebreakers were needed to determine a winner in both contests. EC's Emily Green '18 and Sarah Hill '19 fell just short, 9-8 (8-6) in their match at the second spot, while the rookie duo of Cassie Brown '21 and Eliza Johnson '21 suffered a similar fate with a 9-8 (7-5) setback at the third spot.

In singles play, Fitzgerald earned her second consecutive straight-set victory (6-1, 6-2) of the season at the top spot. The win gave the Thomaston, Connecticut, native 33 career singles wins, just four shy of moving into a share of EC's all-time singles win record that is held by her former teammate Ayaka Yoshino '16.

Green gave Elmira its third point of the afternoon thanks to a straight-set victory at the third position, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. The win was Green's first of the 2017-18 season, and would go down as the final singles victory of the day for the Soaring Eagles. Other tight matches included rookies Johnson and Brown at the second and sixth spots, respectively. Johnson fell 6-2, 6-4, while Brown dropped a tough three-setter 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
