ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's tennis team will look to add to its win column, both overall and within the Empire 8 Conference, as the Purple and Gold challenge the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College and the Lakers of Oswego State this weekend. Elmira faces Fisher in E8 action on Saturday, September 9, at 11:30 a.m., before concluding the weekend with a 12:00 p.m. tilt versus the Lakers. Both contests will take place on EC's home courts at the Murray Athletic Center.

DEFEND THE DOME
The Soaring Eagles opened the 2017 fall season with a hard-fought 5-4 win over visiting Utica College, a win that extended EC's home-opening win streak to three. Including this year's season-opening win, Elmira is 17-11 at the Murray Athletic Center since the fall of 2013. Aside from last year's 1-7 home record, Elmira had gone 16-4 at the MAC during that previous three-year stretch.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
St. John Fisher is off to a strong start to the 2017 campaign with an unblemished 2-0 record, following victories over Brockport (9-0) and E8 foe Houghton (7-2). The infusion of a handful of talented newcomers seems to be the catalyst for Fisher's success this far into the season, as rookies Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell boast perfect 4-0 records. Saffran holds down the No. 1 singles position, Bell sits at the No. 4 spot and the two freshmen have teamed up for a pair of wins at the top doubles position as well.

SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Oswego has only played one match heading into the weekend, a 9-0 setback to SUNYAC powerhouse SUNY Geneseo. Outside of matches at third doubles and fifth and sixth singles, Geneseo won 64-of-68 games played. However, Japanese international Haru Kobayashi pushed her opponent at the fifth spot to five sets, and Corning, New York, native Erin Vargo fell at No. 6 by a single break in both sets, 7-5, 7-5. In doubles action, Bridget Bender and Lorrayne Broach look to be a tough duo, as they fell in a tight battle at the third position, 9-7.

SERIES HISTORY
Since the 1992 season, Elmira has posted an 11-14 record against St. John Fisher and a 16-8 record in matches against Oswego.
