ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's tennis team welcomes Oswego State to the Murray Athletic Center for a non-conference battle on Saturday, March 3. The match between the Soaring Eagles and Lakers is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.

LAST TIME OUT
Elmira suffered an 8-1 setback to a challenging SUNY Oneonta program on Wednesday, February 14, at the Murray Athletic Center. Patrick Tracey '18 gutted his way to a three-set victory at No. 1 singles to earn EC's lone point of the day. The triumph is the 49th total win of Tracey's career, which is tied with Yaniv Kogan '18 for the fourth-most in program history. The Red Dragons opened play at the match by sweeping the Soaring Eagles in doubles action. Tracey and Stephen Gervase '20 put up the biggest fight at No. 1 doubles, taking four points before ultimately falling, 8-4. In the remaining singles portion of the day, Oneonta cruised to five straight-set wins.

SERIES HISTORY
The Soaring Eagles and Lakers have squared off 27 times in the past, with Elmira owning a 15-12 advantage in those previous encounters. The two teams split a pair of meetings last season with Oswego State taking a 6-3 win in the opener, before the Purple and Gold avenged the setback with a 7-2 triumph on March 4, 2017, at the MAC.

SCOUTING OSWEGO
The Lakers enter today's bout with a 1-1 record this season. However, Oswego has not competed since the non-traditional portion of the schedule, when it suffered a 9-0 setback to Damen College on October 1. The Lakers' lone victory of the year came against Empire 8 Conference affiliate Alfred University by a 5-4 final score on September 20. Oswego pulled off the razor-sharp triumph by taking four singles matches and the No. 3 doubles match. Junior Brian Emigholz paced the Lakers' returners this season with nine total wins last year, playing primarily at the No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles positions. Senior Jon Matros has been tasked with manning the No. 1 singles and doubles spots in 2017-18. Last year, the East Islip, New York, native compiled six total victories.

UP NEXT
Elmira will kick off the road portion of its schedule with a 4:00 p.m. bout against non-conference foe the Pennsylvania College of Technology on Friday, March 30, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
