ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College baseball team will travel to York, Pennsylvania, to take on the York College Spartans in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 10. The first of the two games is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Jaquet Field. The Soaring Eagles will then travel to Stevenson, Maryland, the following day for back-to-back matchups against Frostburg State University at 11:00 a.m. and Stevenson University at 2:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Purple and Gold dropped to 0-5 on its season-opening road trip following a 7-1 loss to Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina on Friday, February 23. Junior right-handed pitcher Nick Cottone '19 made the second start of his career, striking out four batters and allowing four runs on nine hits during his 5.0 innings pitched. EC was unable to capitalize offensively as six men were left on base and the first four batters in the lineup each finished with one hit apiece. Elmira's lone run came from Tommy Fogarty '20, who scored on a two-out RBI single from classmate Jansen Crossley '20 in the top of the sixth inning.

SCOUTING YORK
The Spartans of York College have a 3-4 record with their most recent win coming on March 1 over Manchester University by a score of 8-6. Since then, the Spartans have dropped their last three games, including their home-opener on Tuesday, March 6, to Franklin & Marshall College, 5-1. Senior second baseman Zach Hossler leads the Spartans with six RBIs on eight hits, as well as a team-best .296 batting average. Junior outfielder Grant Oberholtzer has scored a team-high five runs and hit four doubles on the season. Sophomore right-hander Andrew Ross (1-1) has started on the mound twice and has a team-high 13 strikeouts with a 2.70 ERA. Sophomore right-handed closer Zac Stoll has pitched 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit on the season and picking up two saves for the Spartans.  

SCOUTING FROSTBURG
The Bobcats of Frostburg State University have a record of 8-1 with their lone loss coming against Stevenson University, 21-8, back on February 17. The Bobcats are on a six-game win streak, with their most recent win coming over Stevenson, 5-0, in their third meeting of the season. Senior outfielder Matt Bougourd owns a team-leading .500 batting average, along with 13 RBIs, 10 runs, three doubles and one home run. Including Bougourd, Frostburg has seven players batting over .300, five players who have hit home runs and four with double-digit RBIs. Senior pitcher Greg Schneider has a 3-0 record on the mound with a team-best 0.41 ERA and 45 strikeouts through 22.0 innings pitched. Junior closer Travis Brashear hasn't allowed a run in 3.0 innings of work and has three strikeouts on the season.

SCOUTING STEVENSON
The Mustangs of Stevenson University are 5-5 on the season after picking up their most recent win, 8-7, over Gettysburg College in a seven-inning game on Tuesday, March 6. Senior third baseman John D'Aquanno leads the Mustangs with a .429 batting average and 11 RBIs on 17 hits, including five doubles and the team's lone home run. Sophomore outfielder Kevin Murray Jr. has scored a team-high 10 runs and has doubled on four of his 13 hits. Junior pitcher James Wiercinski has a team-high 16 strikeouts through 15.0 innings pitched and boasts a 4.20 ERA, the best among Stevenson starters.

SERIES HISTORY
Elmira will be facing the York Spartans, Frostburg State Bobcats, and Stevenson Mustangs for the first time in program history.

LOOKING AHEAD
Elmira's home-opener against the Tigers of Rochester Institute of Technology is scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, at the historic Dunn Field and is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
