ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College softball team will play back-to-back Empire 8 Conference doubleheaders on Wednesday and Thursday, April 18-19, beginning with a 4:00 p.m. home tilt against Utica. The Soaring Eagles will then hit the road for a twin bill vs. Alfred University on Thursday afternoon.
SCOUTING UTICA
	- The Pioneers boast an 8-14 overall record, but are 0-2 against E8 competition.
- Utica won consecutive games for just the second time this season by sweeping SUNY Poly by scores of 8-5 and 12-0.
- The Pioneers possess a potent offense that is tied for first in the E8 in home runs (12) and tied for second in batting average (.326).
- Junior infielder Nicole Rice is fourth in the E8 individual ranks with a .431 batting average.
- Sabrina Stransky has provided all of the pop in the lineup, as the senior leads the Pioneers in doubles (8), home runs (6), RBIs (27), and slugging percentage (.776).
- Utica's go-to pitcher is Gabby Caccamo, a freshman who is 4-6 in 15 appearances with five complete games.
SCOUTING ALFRED
	- Thursday's doubleheader is a makeup of Sunday's postponed twin bill at AU's Harrington Field.
- The Saxons (16-8) swept Nazareth and Houghton to open the E8 slate 4-0, but dropped their most recent games to Stevens on Saturday, 3-1 and 9-5.
- Alfred's .326 team batting average is tied with Utica for second in the conference, while its .215 ERA is the best in the Empire 8.
- Sophomore Jessica Wilcox paces all pitchers in the league with a 1.29 ERA in 14 appearances and 76.0 innings.
- Wilcox sits second in strikeouts (97), complete games (9), wins (8), and opponent's batting average (.170), trailing only St. John Fisher All-American Lindsey Thayer in all four categories.
LOOKING AHEAD
On Saturday, April 21, the Soaring Eagles will welcome the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College to Eldridge Park for an Empire 8 doubleheader on 1:00 p.m. EC will celebrate Class of 2018 Recognition Day that afternoon and will recognize its two seniors – 
Katie McDougal '18 and 
Hannah Lundgren '18.
