ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's tennis team is prepared for a busy week, as the Soaring Eagles will compete three times over the next four days. The action begins with a 4:00 p.m. tilt against Nazareth College on Wednesday, April 18, in Empire 8 Conference action in Rochester, New York. Then EC will take on the Saxons of Alfred University on the road on Friday, April 20, before closing play with a 9:00 a.m. match against No. 39 Stevens Institute of Technology the following day at the Murray Athletic Center.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Soaring Eagles suffered a 7-2 loss at the hands of Hartwick College on Sunday, April 15.
  • Both Patrick Tracey '18 and Stephen Gervase '20 earned wins for Elmira.
  • Tracey won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to extend his win streak to six straight singles bouts.
  • Tracey's victory moved him into a tie with former teammate Austin Mansell '16 for second among EC's all-time singles wins leaders with 35.
  • At No. 3 singles Gervase picked up a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory, his fourth consecutive singles win.

SCOUTING NAZARETH
  • With a 2-10 overall record, the Golden Flyers are still looking to find their footing this season.
  • Both victories came in E8 action, as Naz defeated both Utica College (9-0) and The Sage College (8-1).
  • Senior Louis Rogers has been the team's most effective player, as he leads Nazareth with eight wins this season at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.
  • Rogers and Ryley Amond have formed a feared doubles tandem that is a perfect 3-0 at the No. 1 spot this year.
  • Sophomore Jonathan Scudder paces the Golden Flyers in singles competition with three victories this season.

SCOUTING ALFRED
  • Similar to Nazareth, Alfred has struggled to start the year, as they are 1-7 overall.
  • Of those setbacks, two came against Oswego State by slim 5-4 margins.
  • In their most recent match on Saturday, April 14, the Saxons picked their first win of the year with a 9-0 triumph over Utica.
  • Graduate student Kevin Volz has been a bright spot for Alfred, as he has won a team-leading seven times in 2017-18.
  • Five of Volz's wins have come at the No. 1 singles and doubles play.

SCOUTING STEVENS
  • As a result of a very challenging schedule, the No. 39-ranked Ducks are 7-9 this season.
  • Stevens has faced seven nationally-ranked opponents and one Division I program, and is 1-7 in those contests.
  • In the Empire 8, Stevens is a perfect 4-0 and has not yet lost in those matches, as it won all four matches by 9-0 final scores.
  • The Ducks will battle The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, April 18, before challenging Elmira on Saturday.
  • Freshman Mark Kanevsky has been fantastic for Stevens in his first collegiate campaign, as he enters Wednesday's match with the longest singles win streak on the team (8) and the most combined wins (19).
  • Three-time E8 All-Conference singles selection Danny Polk has also had a stellar season at the top of the Ducks' lineup, as he has 11 total wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Elmira men head to Houghton, New York, on Tuesday, April 24, for a road match against the Highlanders of Houghton College. The E8 bout is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. at Kerr-Pegula Field House.
