ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's tennis team will look to stay in the race for an Empire 8 Conference postseason berth, as the Soaring Eagles travel to take on the Highlanders of Houghton College in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
RECORD IN SIGHT
With an 8-1 record in singles action this season,
Patrick Tracey '18 climbed the ranks in the EC record book for all-time singles wins. The senior heads into the tomorrow's match with 37 career singles win, which places him in a two-way for first place with Gabe Cortes '11 for the college's all-time record. Tracey will face stiff competition to close out the 2018 regular season to achieve this milestone though, as he will square off against the top players from Houghton and St. John Fisher.
SCOUTING HOUGHTON
Despite losing their head coach in the first four months of the academic calendar, the Highlanders have had a phenomenal season and enter tomorrow's matchup in second place in the Empire 8 standings with a 4-1 league record. Houghton is 7-4 overall on the year and own a 7-1 record in its last eight matches. Houghton is led by freshman standout Louis-Guillaume Garcia, who holds down the No. 1 singles position and No. 2 doubles spot in the Highlander lineup. He is 7-1 at the No. 1 singles spot, suffering just one loss at the position to Stevens' Danny Polk.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Elmira and Houghton will meet for a fifth time in their respective histories. The series is split evenly at 2-2, however, the Highlanders have marched away victorious in the last two meetings.
UP NEXT
Following Tuesday's road tilt, the Soaring Eagles will conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 28, with a 12:30 p.m. bout against St. John Fisher College at the Murray Athletic Center.
