ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's tennis team has an Empire 8 Conference match against The Sage Colleges on Saturday, April 7, in Latham, New York. The contest will take place at the Tri-City Tennis Facility and is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.

LAST TIME OUT
The Soaring Eagles picked up its first victory of the 2018 campaign on Saturday, March 31, defeating Utica College by a 9-0 final score at the Murray Athletic Center. EC's win was fueled by a strong performance from the top of its lineup, as the team did not drop a point at No. 1 or 2 singles and doubles. Patrick Tracey '18 won at No. 1 singles, his sixth straight singles win, a streak that dates back to the penultimate match of last season. Sophomore Stephen Gervase '20 also did not drop a point in the contest, picking up his first career win at No. 2 singles.

FIRST CAREER WINS
By virtue of picking up a 9-0 sweep of the Pioneers, a few Soaring Eagles were able to pick up their first wins of their careers. Freshman Zackarie Stedge '21, Ravi Chauma '21 and Frank Endieveri III '21 all picked up their first victories of the season in both singles and doubles action. The trio combined to sweep No. 4-6 singles, in addition to Stedge and Chauma taking third doubles. The confidence that comes with earning their first collegiate triumphs will be huge for these rookie EC netters as the continue to progress through the season.

SCOUTING SAGE
With just two matches under their belts in 2018, the Gators are still in search of their first win of the year. In fact, the Gators have not earned a win since the 2014-15 campaign, defeating Green Mountain College, 7-2, on April 22, 2015. Sage has lost both bouts this season by 9-0 final scores, most recently falling to Hartwick College in its E8-opener on March 31. Upperclassmen Henry Golden and Zaheer Ahmad man the top of the lineup combining to play No. 1 doubles and the top two singles spots.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's bout will be the first between Elmira and Sage. The Gators are the only team on EC's 2018 docket that the Soaring Eagles did not face last year.

UP NEXT

The Purple and Gold continue their conference slate with a home bout against E8 foe Hartwick on Sunday, April 15, at the Murray Athletic Center. The Soaring Eagles and Hawks are scheduled to take flight at 1:00 p.m. at the MAC.
