Women’s Wrestling Stuns No. 14 NJCU; Drops Close Decision Against No. 11 Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT. – The Elmira College women's wrestling program recorded its second dual victory on Monday afternoon as the Soaring Eagles defeated nationally-ranked NJCU, 25-20. EC also faced nationally-ranked Sacred Heart and dropped a 23-16 decision against the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The dual between the Soaring Eagles and Gothic Knights opened with a double forfeit at 101 pounds and a forfeit victory for NJCU at 109 pounds. Lily Rabine '25 secured the first victory of the dual for the Soaring Eagles at 116 pounds. Rabine notched a fall at the 1:39 mark to even the score 5-5.

Maylin Reyes '25 would give the Purple & Gold a 10-5 lead following a forfeit victory at 123 pounds. The Gothic Knights responded with a pin at 130 pounds as Naomi Henry defeated Merci Jessop '25 to knot the score 10-10.

Skylah Chakouian '25 pinned Patience Hevi just 55 seconds into her bout at 155 pounds to give Elmira a 20-15 lead, while Kayla Lanning '25 (136 pounds) and Hazel Dahlquist '25 (170 pounds) tallied forfeit victories to help the Soaring Eagles secure the 25-20 victory.

In Elmira's matchup against Sacred Heart, the Soaring Eagles would take an early 15-0 lead after the Pioneers forfeited bouts at 116 and 123. Jessop secured her victory for EC at 130 pounds following a pin at the 1:38 mark.

Sacred Heart started its comeback with a victory via fall at 136 pounds and would secure five consecutive victories en route to a 23-16 win against the Purple & Gold. Chakouian added a point for EC wrestling at 155 pounds after dropping an 8-4 decision against the Pioneers' Madison Sandquist.

The match opened with a pair of double forfeits at 101 and 109 pounds, while Elmira forfeited bouts at 143 and 191 pounds.
