Three Soaring Eagles Battle to Blood Round at 2024 NCWWC Nationals as Lints Secures All-American Status

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA – Zoey Lints '27 battled through a tech fall loss in the quarterfinals against No. 2 Reese Larramendy and responded with a fall over Alissa Caltagirone to secure an All-American finish at 143 pounds for the Elmira College women's wrestling program at the 2024 NCWWC National Championships in Iowa.

Skylah Chakouian '25 and Abby Duke '26 both battled back from opening-round losses to record a pair of victories in the consolation bracket as both would fall just one win shy of securing All-American status at 109 pounds and 155 pounds for the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lints opened her tournament with an opening-round bye and would await her opponent in the championship second round. The matchup would be a familiar foe for Lints, who matched up against Khadijah Sanusi from Sacred Heart.
  • It would be Sanusi who recorded the first three points of the bout following a takedown and one passivity point called against Lints early in the first period. Lints responded with a four-point takedown just as time expired in the opening period.
  • Sanusi gained a 7-4 advantage in the second period following a takedown only to see Lints gain four points of her own with a near-fall to gain an 8-7 lead. Lints would hold on to the advantage and recorded her first victory at nationals to advance to the quarterfinals.
  • The quarterfinals would bring No. 2 nationally ranked Reese Larramendy from Iowa to face Lints as Larramendy quickly recorded a 10-0 tech fall to drop Lints into the consolation bracket. In the consolation fourth-round bout, Lints faced Alissa Caltagirone from Northern Michigan and secured a pin at the 1:37 mark to advance to Saturday's All-American competition.
  • Duke was matched up against returning All-American Jenavi Alejandro from Tiffin in the opening round at 109 pounds as Alejandro notched a 10-0 tech fall victory. Following a bye into the consolation second round, Duke recorded a 10-0 tech fall over Ahsia Torres from Sacred Heart.
  • A matchup in the consolation third round paired Duke against Alyssa Guardiola from King as Duke secured an 8-0 decision to advance to the blood round at 109 pounds for the Purple & Gold. In the matchup, Duke would be pinned at the 3:51 mark by No. 8 Samantha Miller from Mount Olive.
  • Chakouian opened her tournament at 155 pounds with a championship-round matchup against a familiar foe in Nyla Burgess from Adrian. Burgess would get the better of Chakouian in the bout via an 11-0 tech fall to send her into the consolation bracket.
  • Chakouian responded with back-to-back pins in the consolation bracket as she bested Molly Keller from Emory & Henry, who pinned Chakouian earlier this season. Chakouian followed with another fall against Azana King from Schreiner to advance to the blood round, where she would be pinned by No. 8 Alex Hofrichter from Dubuque.

Lints will face Erica Schroeder from Colorado Mesa in a consolation quarterfinal bout at 143 pounds on Saturday morning at the 2024 NCWWC National Championships. Action is scheduled to begin at 11:00 A.M. Central from the Alliant Energy Arena.
