ELMIRA, NY – For Carter Wisely '25, Joel Pavey '25, Cole Tucker '25, Shane Miller '25, and Nathan Young '25, Saturday's game against Vermont State University Castleton will be the final regular season home game they play in their collegiate careers. Although the Soaring Eagles have won their last three matchups with the Spartans heading into this weekend, they need to find a way to come out with a pair of wins to lock down a spot in the NEHC Playoffs.
When reflecting on their time wearing the Purple & Gold crest, Wisely, Tucker, and Young all shared that their favorite game came on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, a 7-5 win over eventual national champion Hobart on Athletics Alumni Weekend while wearing 50th anniversary sweaters.
Pavey's favorite game played during his time at EC was his junior year against Trinity playing in the Elite 8. According to Pavey, the Soaring Eagles "had a great team and effort that night."
November 1, the Soaring Eagles' first home game of the season, a 2-1 loss to Nazareth, was Miller's most memorable game of the season. He would have liked to pick up a win, but it was his first game in the domes and the thing he remembers most is the atmosphere of the home crowd.
Wisley's favorite memories off the ice include the team's yearly wine tastings tours around local wineries. Pavey always enjoyed playing in term-three softball with the hockey team. Meeting his new teammates in class was something that will always stick with Tucker. Playing golf before the season (and snow) started was something Miller always enjoyed. Playing ball hockey with and against the BOCES kids every year was special for Young.
As far as what they planned for the future, both Wisely and Tucker have plans to further their education in graduate school. Pavey is working toward joining law enforcement and would like to get into coaching down the road as well. Young will be heading to Ithaca College to complete the Department of Physical Therapy program. Miller will look to land a job in finance, start a family, and move to Montana.
