ten Vaanholt of the Elmira College men’s ice hockey team led the Soaring Eagles to a 2-0-1 week. The Elmira men concluded a five-game road trip with a 7-2 win over Fredonia State last Tuesday before returning home to tie Nazareth College 4-4 in overtime and defeat Wesleyan University 7-6.
Against Fredonia, ten Vaanholt assisted on one goal for one point and against Nazareth he assisted on a pair of power-play goals, including the game-tying goal that was scored with just 20 seconds remaining in the third period. He saved his biggest performance of the week for Saturday’s finale against Wesleyan at the First Arena, when the junior forward turned-in a four-point performance on two goals and two assists. ten Vaanholt had a hand in Elmira’s first three goals and scored EC’s sixth goal of the game, a goal that would prove to be an important one as the Purple and Gold edged the Cardinals, 7-6.
His seven-point weekend increases his season total to 16, bringing his points per game average this year to 1.60, the highest average in the ECAC West Conference. Additionally, his 1.60 points per game is the ninth best average in all of NCAA Division III men’s ice hockey and his 1.20 assists per game this season is the third highest average in the nation.
