Connor Powell '20 helped the EC men's ice hockey team clinch a postseason berth, in addition to adding his name to the program's 100-point club in just his junior season. The third-year forward collected a team-high four points on two goals and two assists, earning a point on all but one goal scored in two games over the weekend.
Following a draw against reigning United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) champion Utica on Friday night, Powell guided the Soaring Eagles to a 4-1 triumph on the road against Nazareth. He earned the primary assist on the first two goals of the contest, both of which came on the power play in the first period. He then sealed the win by tallying his 17th and 18th goals of the year late in the third period. His second goal marked the 100th point of his career, as both he and classmate Nick Ford '20 became the 50th and 51st players in team history to enter the 100-point club on the same night.
The standout from Merrimack, New Hampshire, has continued to haunt opposing defenses all season long. Powell is tied for second in Division III in goals scored (18), ranks sixth in goals per game (0.82), and is tied for seventh in game-winning goals (4).
Powell and the Elmira men's ice hockey team are home for the final three games of the regular season. On Saturday, February 9, the Soaring Eagles host Lebanon Valley at 7:00 p.m., as part of the 37th annual Athletics Alumni Weekend.
