With the puck-stopping ability of Stephanie Martin '22, the Soaring Eagles claimed the title at one of the nation's toughest regular-season tournaments – the East-West Hockey Classic – by defeating No. 1/2 Plattsburgh State on Monday, before sweeping Manhattanville on the road over the weekend. In total, EC outscored its opponents 8-1 and logged a pair of shutouts, while extending its win streak to six consecutive games.
Martin started all three games and earned all three victories against the Cardinals and Valiants. In 180:00 minutes, the first-year goalie allowed one goal and made 71 saves, equaling a minute 0.33 goals-against average and a superb .986 save percentage. The Yorktown, Virginia, native made a career-high 33 saves against Plattsburgh State to hand the Cardinals there second loss of 2018-19. Martin's effort earned her a spot on the East-West Hockey Classic All-Tournament Team.
On the national leaderboards, EC's standout rookie, Martin, leads all first-year goalies with a 1.08 goals-against average, a .946 save percentage and five shutouts in 12 starts.
