Marty Kapoian '22 turned in another impressive multi-point outing for the Elmira men's ice hockey team in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Lebanon Valley on Friday night. After defeating the Flying Dutchmen 8-3 on their home ice, the Soaring Eagles improved to 5-2-0 in UCHC play and are tied for first in the standings with 15 league points.
A rookie from Mahwah, New Jersey, Kapoian led all scorers with a career-high three points (2g-1a) against Lebanon Valley, the second multi-goal game of his freshman season. He netted an unassisted tally early in the second period and put EC ahead 5-2 later in the frame with his second goal. Kapoian's third point was earned on Elmira's seventh goal, as he handed out the primary assist on the play to set up teammate Spencer MacLean '20. In all, Kapoian's three-point effort helped the EC men score the most goals in a game since 2016 with eight.
The only rookie to skate in all 11 games this season, Kapoian is sixth on the team in points (6) and is tied for fourth in goals (4). Among freshmen in the UCHC, he is tied for ninth in scoring.
Kapoian and the EC men's ice hockey team return to the road this weekend for a pair of UCHC contests to close the 2018 portion of the schedule. The road trip begins on Friday, December 7, with a 7:10 p.m. tilt against Chatham in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
