In addition to helping the Soaring Eagles win all three matches last week, Natalie Schieder '19 surpassed a significant milestone in her third season donning the Purple and Gold. The junior outside hitter became just the 14th member of the illustrious 1,000-kill club, doing so in front of the EC faithful at the 2017 home finale on Thursday against Misericordia. In the match – a three-set sweep of the Cougars – Schieder posted 14 kills and finished one dig shy of a double-double.
During Saturday's Empire 8 Conference Crossover, hosted by Sage, Schieder registered a pair of double-doubles to guide the Soaring Eagles to league wins over the Gators and Houghton. In the four-set victory over the hosts from Sage, the Alden, New York, native had 18 kills and 13 digs to go along with two service aces and a block. She followed that up with her biggest outing of the week in a come-from-behind victory against the Highlanders. Seven of her 21 kills were floored in the decisive fifth set, as Elmira overcame a two-sets-to-none deficit to beat Houghton. Schieder also totaled week-highs with 19 digs and a trio of aces.
For her career, Schieder has accumulated 1,041 kills and sits tied with Mary Powell '94 for 10th-place all-time on the program leaderboard. The standout hitter leads the E8 in kills per set (4.07), ranks fifth in digs per set (3.49) and is eighth in aces per set (0.49).
Schieder and the rest of the EC women will travel to La Plume, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, October 24, for a non-conference match against Keystone at 7:00 p.m.
