On the mound in sunny Florida, Zach Williamson '20 pitched the best game of his collegiate career to lead the Soaring Eagles to their first win of the spring against Bates. In the 6-4 victory, the Cicero, New York, native tossed a career-best 8.0 innings on 108 pitches and limited the Bobcats to three runs (two earned). He walked only two while striking out four batters in the contest en route to his first win as a Soaring Eagle.
With a 2.25 ERA, Williamson leads the EC staff and is third in the E8 among qualified pitchers. He also ranks third in the conference in opposing batting average at .241.
Williamson and the Soaring Eagles will travel south once again this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders in Maryland. On Saturday, February 29, Elmira will visit McDaniel for a two-game set, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
