Ithaca, NY -- EC Men's Lacrosse traveled to take on Empire 8 competitor Ithaca College. The Soaring Eagles were looking to make it two wins in a row whereas the Bombers of Ithaca looked for their second straight E8 victory.
Ithaca would jump out to a quick 6-0 lead before EC rookie Dustin Gatt '14 (Welland, ONT -- Notre Dame College) put Elmira on the scoreboard with 1:46 remaining in the first quarter. The first quarter would come to a close with Ithaca claiming a 7-1 advantage.
The second quarter would be much closer as Elmira would hold the Bombers to 3 goals while the Soaring Eagles netted 2. Gatt would again notch another score in addition to Kenny Keirstead '11 (Waltham, MA -- Waltham) tallied his 12th goal of the season.
Trailing 9-3 at half the Bombers would make a concentrated effort on defense, shutting Elmira down in the third quarter to take a 13-3 lead entering the final quarter of play. EC would open the fourth with three straight goals, one from Paul Schwartz '11 (Allison Park, PA -- Kiski School) and two from David Evert '14 (Niagara Falls, NY -- Niagara Wheatfield). Ithaca would respond with one goal at the end of the quarter to complete a 14-6 win, dropping Elmira's record to 4-6 on the season.
Elmira goalie Dave Bucchino '13 (Cedar Grove, NJ -- Bow) made 15 saves in the loss. The Soaring Eagles are back in action as they host Utica College in Empire 8 action on Saturday, April 23rd. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Campus Field in Elmira, NY.
