Elmira, NY – The EC Men's Lacrosse team fell short of a comeback against the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport, 14-11, on Saturday afternoon at Elmira Free Academy. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-5, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 3-2.
The Golden Eagles got off to a quick start taking a 4-1 lead with 6:53 left in the first quarter. The Soaring Eagles responded right back with
Rick Acorn '12 (Barrie, ONT -- Innisdale) scoring two goals of his own bringing EC within one at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter the Golden Eagles scored another two quick goals to go up 6-3, but EC hung around and fought back, scoring five more goals to take the lead into halftime 8-7.
Acorn led the team in scoring in the first half with three goals and one assist, while
David Evert '14 (Niagara Falls, NY -- Niagara Wheatfield) registered a goal, two assists and picked up four ground balls.
In the start of the second half Brockport came out ready to dominate outscoring EC 5-1 to bring it to 12-9 at the end of the third quarter with EC not having an answer. The Soaring Eagles finally responded in the fourth quarter with two goals from
Brady Richards '14 (Cortice, ONT -- The Hill Academy) and
TJ White '12 (Collegeville, PA -- Methacton). However, the Golden Eagles held their lead scoring two insurance goals to help seal the win.
Acorn led the Soaring Eagle attack finishing with three goals, two assists and four ground balls, while
Evert finished with two goals, two assists and four ground balls.
Richards and
Dustin Gatt '14 (Welland, ONT -- Notre Dame College) also played well combining for three goals, one assist and four caused turnovers.
Dave Bucchino '13 (Cedar Grove, NJ -- Bow) finished with 16 saves in net for EC, while Cory Banwaree finished with seven saves for Brockport.
The Men's Lacrosse team returns to action Saturday, March 31
st when they travel to Williamsport, PA to take on Lycoming College in nonconference play.
