Hoboken, NJ – The Elmira College Men's Lacrosse team struggled to find its offense falling, 20-5, against conference heavyweight Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon in Hoboken. The win improves the No. 12 Ducks to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 3-7 overall and 0-4 in conference competition.
Stevens set the tone from the start, rattling off nine straight scores over the opening 20 minutes of play. EC finally got on the board nearly midway through the second quarter when
TJ White '12 (Collegeville, PA -- Methacton) scored a man-up goal off a pass from
Jackson Correia '14 (Simsbury, CT -- The Masters School). However, the Ducks responded with three more markers to take a 12-1 advantage into intermission.
EC held its own in the second half scoring four times compared to eight Stevens' goals for the final core of 20-5. The Ducks outshot Elmira 49-25 in the game, but the Purple and Gold held their own in the faceoff circle controlling 13 of 27 draws. The Soaring Eagles turned the ball over 22 times compared to just 11 Duck giveaways, while Stevens held a slight 19-14 advantage in ground balls.
White led Elmira with four points in the form of two goals and two assists.
David Evert '14 (Niagara Falls, NY -- Niagara Wheatfield) and
Correia each recorded one score and one assist, while
Mike DeMar '15 (Macedon, NY -- Palmyra Macedon) added the other goal for EC.
Mike Knowlton '14 (Manchester, ME -- Maranacook) and
Brady Richards '14 (Cortice, ONT -- The Hill Academy) each tallied 30 minutes between the pipes for the Soaring Eagles finishing with four saves apiece.
