Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Lacrosse team was always in the game but fell late to visiting Swarthmore College, 13-10, Saturday afternoon at Elmira Free Academy. The win improves the Garnets to 3-5, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 1-5.
Elmira got on the board just more than five minutes in when
Brady Richards '14 found
Tyler Campbell '13 for the opening score. Swarthmore scored three of the next four goals to take a 3-2 edge at the end of the first quarter.
Campbell found the back of the net for the third time of the game off a pass from
David Evert '14 just three minutes into the second quarter to tie the contest at 3-3. The Garnets used a strong effort netting four of the next five goals including a man-down marker with one minute left in the half. Swarthmore took a 7-4 lead into intermission.
EC scored three of the next four goals out of halftime with
Campbell,
Jackson Correia '14 and
Brian Conzola '14 each beating the goaltender to get within 8-7 midway through the third.
After the Garnets opened up a 10-7 lead
Correia and
Christian Archambeault '14 answered with scores to trim the deficit to 10-9 early in the fourth quarter. However, Swarthmore tallied three of the game's final four tallies to hold on for the 13-10 victory.
Campbell paced Elmira with four goals and an assist, while
Correia found the back of the net three times.
Evert dished out a game-high five assists. Andrew Preiser led the Garnets with four scores.
Dave Bucchino '13 stopped 14 shots in the loss, while Jonathan Cohen made 15 saves in the win for Swarthmore.
