Bucchino Makes 21 Saves in Home Loss to Hawks

Elmira, NY – Despite falling behind four points after the first quarter the Men's Lacrosse team played even the remainder of the game with visiting Hartwick College but fell, 12-8, Saturday afternoon at Campus Field. The win improves the Hawks to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 1-7 and 0-2.

Hartwick's Harry Hughes scored three straight goals in a five minute span getting the visitors off to a 3-0 start early on in the first quarter. Brady Richards '14 responded with a goal off a pass from Skyler Pradelski '16 with 6:19 remaining in the frame. 'Wick added two markers to take a 5-1 lead after one.

Elmira dominated play early in the second quarter as Jackson Correia '14 scored once and Tyler Campbell '13 found the back of the net twice. The Hawks added a man-up goal and Hughes scored a dagger just before the halftime horn sounded giving 'Wick a 7-4 lead at intermission.

The Hawks scored two straight goals out of intermission to open up a 9-4 advantage. Hughes scored his fifth goal of the game during the run, which made him the all-time leading goal scorer in Hartwick history. Correia finished a man-up goal off a pass from Christian Archambeault '14 as EC trailed 9-5 at the end of the third.

Both teams put up three scores in the final period as Hartwick held on for the 12-8 victory. Campbell, David Evert '14, and Brian Conzola '14 tallied the fourth quarter markers for Elmira.

'Wick held advantages in shots on goal (33-18) and face-offs (12-8), while the Soaring Eagles had a 30-27 ground balls edge. EC went 1-for-3 with the extra attacker and the Hawks converted one of their eight chances. Dave Bucchino '13 (Cedar Grove, NJ -- Bow) had a remarkable game in net making 21 saves for Elmira, while Carl Lengel stopped 10 shots for Hartwick.
