Men’s Lacrosse Drops a Road Game to Swarthmore

The Elmira College men's lacrosse team (0-3) fell to Swarthmore College (2-3) 16-8 on the road today. Brady Richards '14 led the Soaring Eagles with four goals and three grounds balls in the loss.

Swarthmore started the game with seven unanswered goals in the first quarter. Swarthmore upped their lead to 8-0, 1:29 into the second quarter. EC then regrouped 1:35 later as Dustin Gatt '14 scored an unassisted goal. With 6:49 left in the second quarter, Brady Richards scored his first goal of the game off a pass from David Evert '14. The Purple and Gold cut Swarthmore's lead to 8-3 after Evert passed the ball to Griffin Foley '17 who slipped the ball past Swarthmore's netminder. Swarthmore closed out the second quarter with two more goals to take a 10-3 lead.

Swarthmore kicked off the third quarter with two goals, with one coming off a man-up advantage. Brady Richards scored his second goal of the game off a pass from his brother, Myles Richards '17. 1:02 later, Swarthmore increased their lead to 13-4. The EC men responded with two more goals to end the third quarter. Myles Richards scored the first goal, unassisted, while Brady Richards scored the second goal off a pass from Christian Archambeault '14 to chip into Swarthmore's 13-6 lead.

EC kicked off the fourth quarter with a goal 58 seconds into the quarter when Gatt scored his second goal of the day. 3:10 later, Swarthmore scored a goal to up their lead to 14-7. Brady Richards scored his fourth goal of the game with 9:24 left in regulation play. Swarthmore closed out the game with two more goals, to finish with a 16-8 lead.

Mike Knowlton '14 started in net for the Soaring Eagles and made six saves while Wyatt Katsos '17 tallied one save in the last 7:15 seconds of the game.

Elmira will compete next when they host Brockport State on March 19th. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
