Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team fell to 1-4 in Empire 8 play after dropping an 18-9 decision to visiting St. John Fisher College. Kyle Cooke '17, in his first career start, and Cameron Prior '17 combined to make 12 saves in the defeat, including a career-high nine saves from Cooke. The Soaring Eagles got off to a good start as Dustin Gatt '14 fought through traffic to score the game's opening goal. EC maintained their 1-0 lead for nearly the entire opening quarter, but a pair of St. John Fisher goals, just 42 seconds apart from each other, gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead and kicked-off what would be six consecutive St. John Fisher goals. Brady Richards '14 halted EC's scoring drought with 6:53 to play in the first half as he added to his already career-best 27 goals with his first of two goals on the day. Unfortunately for the Purple and Gold the Cardinals would net two additional goals to make it an 8-2 game at the break.

EC could not get their offense going to start the second half despite eight third quarter shots. The Cardinals, on the other hand, opened the third quarter with six unanswered goals which put Elmira in a 14-2 hole. The Soaring Eagles would rally towards the end of the quarter as Myles Richards '17 and Gatt scored three goals, including back-to-back goals from Richards, in the final four minutes of play to give EC some momentum heading into the fourth quarter.

The Purple and Gold had their best scoring quarter in the final frame, netting four goals on St. John Fisher, but the Cardinals matched EC which led to the 18-9 defeat. Elmira's four goals were scored by four different players, David Evert '14, Jackson Correia '14, Gatt, and Brady Richards. Correia had assists on two of the four goals while Evert added his third assist of the afternoon on EC's final goal of the day.

The Soaring Eagles will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, April 19th when they travel to Utica College for an Empire 8 matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
