Men’s Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short Against Alfred

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team (1-7, 0-3 E8) fell to Alfred University (3-5, 1-2 E8), 12-11 today. Brady Richards '14 led the Soaring Eagles with four goals, two assists, and two groundballs in the loss.

Alfred started the game with the first four goals to take a 4-0 lead with 6:45 left in the first quarter. The Purple and Gold regrouped and finished the quarter with two goals to chip into the Anglo Saxons' lead, 2-4. Brian Conzola '14 scored the first goal, unassisted, with 3:37 left in the quarter. Then off the next faceoff Dustin Gatt '14 picked up the groundball and ran all the way down the field to net a goal, just 14 seconds later.

The Anglo Saxons kicked off the second quarter with two goals, to up Alfred's lead to 6-2. EC then finished the first half with three straight goals to trail, 5-6. Jackson Correia '14 tossed the ball over to Richards, to score the first goal. The second goal came off a pass from Richards to Anthony LaRusso '17 who scored and the third was a pass from Conzola to Correia who netted his first goal of the game to end the half.

EC tied up the game at 6-6 when Correia received a pass from Richards just 45 seconds into the third quarter. Alfred responded with a goal of their own, taking a 7-6 lead with 6:41 left in the quarter. Gatt scored another goal to tie the game up at 7-7 with 3:13 left in the third quarter.  

Elmira took their first lead of the game 4:26 into the fourth quarter, after Gatt scored his third goal of the game. The Anglo Saxons scored the next four goals of the game to take an 11-8 lead with 4:56 left in regulation time. Richards scored the next three goals to tie up the game at 11-11. The first was a man down goal, unassisted, with 4:10 left, the second was a man-up goal from Correia, and the third was an even strength goal from Gatt. Alfred then scored the game winning goal with just 2:44 left in the game.
 
Elmira will compete next when they travel to Hartwick College on April 12th, at 12:00 p.m.
