Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team will be traveling to Alfred University today for an Empire 8 Conference matchup at 1:00 p.m. today.
Last Time OutThe Soaring Eagles are coming off a 14-7 win over Houghton College on Wednesday. After trailing 5-4 after the first half, the EC men used a 10-2 second half to secure the win.
Getting Shots OffPart of EC's success against the Highlanders was due to Elmira outshooting Houghton 57-28. The EC men more than doubled their previous season-high of 26 and posted the most shots since the Purple and Gold tallied 65 against Houghton on March 1st, 2013.
Leach with a Career-HighTJ Leach '16 led the EC men against Houghton with five goals and one assist, setting a new career-high in points and goals scored. He eclipsed his previous career-highs of two points and one goal.
Scouting the SaxonsAlfred is 8-1 overall and hold a 2-1 mark inside the Empire 8 Conference. The Saxons have wins over Houghton College and Stevens Tech and a loss against Nazareth College. Alfred is led offensively by John Winchell and Nicolas Wood who have 43 and 42 points, respectively. Drew Gardner has seen the majority of minutes in the net for the Saxons posting 75 saves and a .536 save percentage.
Series AdvantageThe Soaring Eagles have competed against Alfred every year since the 2003 season. In that time, the Saxons hold the series advantage with an 8-4 record. However, in the past two matchups were only decided upon by a single goal.
