A LOOK BACK AT THE WEEK THAT WAS

Baseball – Elmira Scores Season High Against Alfred State, Wins Season Series vs. SUNY Canton
In five games last week, the Soaring Eagles (12-12, 8-7 E8) captured a trio of victories, including two important Empire 8 Conference wins. The week began with a 21-14 slugfest in Alfred, New York, against the Pioneers of Alfred State. The 21 runs marked a season high for EC, which saw 11 different batters record at least one hit. Among the standouts at the plate were Harrison Zambarano '19 and Eddie O'Donnell IV '18, who each finished 3-for-4. In his debut with the Purple and Gold, O'Donnell, a transfer from the College of St. Joseph (VT) drove in two runs and scored three more. Cameron Heggie '18 also tied a program record with four walks and established a personal record with four runs scored.

Elmira then hosted SUNY Canton at Dunn Field in a crucial Empire 8 series. The Soaring Eagles split Saturday's doubleheader with the Roos, winning 2-1 in the matinee before falling 1-0 in the nightcap. Conor Bawiec '18 hurled a complete-game with seven strikeouts to pick up the victory in the series opener. The following afternoon, Tommy Fogarty '20 and Dennis Rudolph '18 combined for four hits and four RBIs to lead EC to a 6-4 win in the finale versus Canton, allowing the Soaring Eagles to win their third conference series of the spring

Softball – Soaring Eagles Split E8 Series with Stevens, Finish Week with 3-3 Record
Elmira (8-11, 2-10 E8) began last week with a pair of one-run non-conference wins (7-6, 12-11) against Alfred State, before being swept by Ithaca five days later in league play. However, EC concluded the week by splitting a conference series with Stevens, which snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Ducks. After dropping the opening game to Stevens, 5-0, Elmira rallied in game two to secure its second E8 win of the season by a 4-3 final score. The win was highlighted by the efforts of senior Emily Carlin '17, who drove in all four runs in the game – a career high for the Riverside, California, native – and came in for relief duty to hold the Ducks to zero runs over the final 3.1 innings.

Maddy Johnson '19 fueled Elmira's offense during the week with a team-high .412 batting average on a 7-for-17 showing from the plate. Johnson produced team highs in runs scored (8), walks (4), stolen bases (3), and on-base percentage (.524). Carlin also had solid numbers last week, as the fourth-year utility player tied for the team lead in RBIs (5) with Emily Clark '19 and logged the second-highest batting average of those with 10-or-more plate appearances (.333). Carlin also went 1-2 in the pitcher's circle with one save and a 3.50 ERA.

Olney is tied with Anthony LaRusso '17 for the team lead in goals, as both have 15 on the year. Women's Lacrosse – Wargo Shines as Elmira Goes 1-1 with Win over Roos
The Elmira women (4-9, 1-5 E8) went 1-2 last week, suffering a pair of league losses to two of the E8's top teams in Stevens and Nazareth, before edging visiting SUNY Canton by two goals on Senior Day at Campus Field. In Elmira's 9-7 win over Canton, neither team lit up the scoreboard in the opening 30 minutes as the two adversaries entered the halftime break deadlocked at 2-2. Canton struck for the first goal of the second half, but a trio of EC tallies over a 5:16 span put the Purple and Gold out in front by two goals, 5-3. The Soaring Eagles never relinquished their lead from that point on to secure their fourth victory of the year.

Fourth-year netminder Lindsay Wargo '17 stole the show for the Soaring Eagles during the week with 29 saves in the three contests, including a career-high-tying 17 stops against the Golden Flyers. The 29 saves brought her season total to 116, tied for the seventh-most in single-season program history, while increasing her career total to 368, just 13 shy of moving into a two-way tie for first place. Hayley Baker '19 led the EC attack with team highs of seven goals and nine points. Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 chipped in with a team-high three assists.
