ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team will travel to Oneonta, New York, to take on the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m. at the Red Dragon Field.

LAST TIME OUT
Elmira was defeated by SUNY Cobleskill by a 12-2 final score in its 2018 home opener at nearby Notre Dame High School on Saturday, March 10. Jacob Magnoli '18 continued his strong start to the year with his second goal of the season, while Kevin DiMagno '20 also scored for the Soaring Eagles.  Freshman goalie Richie Cameron '21 made seven saves in his first collegiate start. Cam Brickey '19 caused three turnovers in the contest to go along with scooping up five ground balls.

BACK IN ACTION
In his first bout of the season following the end of the men's ice hockey campaign, dual-sport student-athlete DiMagno netted his first career goal, in addition to picking up a team-high eight ground balls against the Tigers. This ranks DiMagno at third in the Empire 8 Conference in ground balls per game (8.0), and fourth in caused turnovers per game (3.0). These are career-high numbers for the second-year midfielder from Fairport, New York, who made the fifth appearance of his Elmira career in his 2018 season debut.

BRICK WALL
Brickey has started on defense in both games for the Soaring Eagles this season. He caused three turnovers in the matchup against SUNY Cobleskill after recording four in the season-opener against Keuka College. Brickey's caused-turnovers-per-game average of 3.50 leads the Empire 8 so far this season. The junior defenseman from Cuba, New York, caused a total of eight turnovers and picked up 11 ground balls during the 2017 season, and is already one shy of tying both of his season totals after just two games of the 2018 campaign.

SERIES HISTORY
The Soaring Eagles will face the Red Dragons for the 20th time since the program's inaugural season in 1989, with Oneonta holding a 15-4 all-time series record over Elmira. Saturday's game marks the first matchup between Elmira and Oneonta since March 21, 2007, when the Red Dragons defeated the Soaring Eagles by a score of 8-3. EC's last win over Oneonta came back in 1996, when the Soaring Eagles bested the Red Dragons 11-7.

SCOUTING SUNY ONEONTA
The Red Dragons are 2-1 on the season following their most recent win over Farmingdale State, 9-2, on Tuesday, March 6. SUNY Oneonta has a balanced attack with four players who have recorded five-plus points on the season, along with 12 players that have logged at least one point, led by junior attackman Stephen Panno with six points (5g-1a). Faceoff specialist Troy Stasko has logged a team-high 11 groundballs and a .641 faceoff win percentage that ranks second in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). After coming in off of the bench in Oneonta's season-opening loss to Misericordia University, sophomore goalie Zachary Flynn has earned the starting role in cage. He is 2-0 in his two starts and has recorded 31 saves on the season, which ranks fourth in the conference. Flynn's 70.5 save percentage and 5.20 goals-against average both rank second in the SUNYAC.

UP NEXT
The Soaring Eagles will venture to La Plume, Pennsylvania, to take on the Giants of Keystone College in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday, March 21, at 4:00 p.m.
