ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's wrestling program opened the 2023 portion of its schedule with a 39-8 dual victory against Hiram College on Saturday inside Speidel Gymnasium. The Soaring Eagles were paced by tech fall wins from
Skylah Chakouian '25 and
Gabby Bradigan '26.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles opened the match with four-straight victories via forfeit by Hiram as
Skylynn Tomlinson '26,
Ariyanna Orosco '26,
Kaitlyn Potter '26, and
Abby Duke '26 were all victorious for the Purple & Gold.
Hiram would earn its first points of the match at 130 pounds as the Soaring Eagles would forfeit to bring the match score to 20-5 in favor of Elmira. The first contested bout of the match would be at 136 pounds as
Gabby Bradigan '26 delivered an 11-0 tech fall victory over Hiram's Bethany Smith just 15 seconds into the second period.
Next onto the mat would be Elmira's
Leslie Monterrosa '24 wrestling at 143 pounds. Monterrosa held an early 5-0 lead in the bout but would see Hiram's Erika Novak rally to score a pair of points before the end of the first period. Novak would score the final three points of the bout to knot the score 5-5 and would be victorious via criteria to earn three points for the Terriers.
Leading 25-8, the Soaring Eagles would send
Skylah Chakouian '25 to the mat to wrestle at 155 pounds against Hiram's Allydia Byard. Chakouian would control the tempo of the bout from the opening whistle as she tallied six points in the opening minute of the first period. She would secure an 11-0 tech fall victory early in the second period to increase EC's lead to 29-8.
Elmira closed the match with a pair of forfeit victories at 170 pounds and 191 pounds as
Hazel Dahlquist '25 and
Tayana Labady '25 both earned wins for the Soaring Eagles.
