Atu Machika '18, originally from Machinga, Malawi, had the hot hand in the first win of the 2015 campaign for the Elmira College field hockey team. She scored all three goals in the 3-0 victory over Keuka College on September 8th. Not only were they the first three goals of her career, but the hat trick was one shy of tying the program record for most goals in a single game. Machika also finished the game with a team-high seven shots on goal.
On the season, Machika, an All-Empire 8 Conference Honorable Mention selection as a freshman, leads the Purple and Gold with three goals and six points, and is second with 14 shots and nine shots on goal.
The Elmira College field hockey team is back at the Murray Athletic Center for a pair of games this week. The Soaring Eagles host Wilkes University at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16th before welcoming Utica College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19th for their second conference matchup of the season.
