Justin Porrett '19, who was named the Empire 8 and ECAC Corvias Rookie of the Week last week, has proven to be a spark-plug for the Elmira men's basketball team only six games into his career. The six-foot guard nearly led the Soaring Eagles to a come-from-behind victory against St. Lawrence University on December 4th.
In his third career start, Porrett netted a team-leading 20 points, tying his career high. He finished 6-for-12 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. He grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists and recorded one steal. Porrett was nearly perfect from the line, making six of his seven free throws.
On the season, the Dumont, NJ, native sits second on the Soaring Eagles with 12.8 points per game, while he leads the squad with 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. His assist average and 45.5 field-goal percentage both rank eighth in the Empire 8.
The Elmira College men's basketball team has one more contest before the Christmas break, as the Soaring Eagles will play the nightcap of a doubleheader on Wednesday against SUNY Cortland. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
