Carter Shinkaruk '16 single-handedly outscored EC's two opponents over the weekend, collecting a combined five goals in the 4-3 win over The College at Brockport on Friday and a 5-1 drubbing of SUNY Geneseo on Saturday.
The Langley, British Columbia, native opened the scoring on the road against the Golden Eagles with a wrister that beat Brockport netminder Jake Moore short-side. His second tally came late in the second period to regain the lead, setting the stage for Blake O'Neill '19 to score the game-winner in the third period.
The senior center then used a career outing to help the Soaring Eagles rout No. 4/8 SUNY Geneseo at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena. Shinkaruk scored his first career hat trick against the Knights. His first goal late in the first period beat SUNY Geneseo glove side, and then he scored on the power play in the second to give EC a 2-0 advantage. He also netted his third goal on the power play to cap off a four-goal second period, which gave the Purple and Gold a 5-0 cushion.
On the season, Shinkaruk leads the Soaring Eagles with 14 goals, third-most in the country, while his 1.17 goals-per-game average leads the nation. He also ranks seventh in points per game with 1.58, and only needs one more point to tie his career high of 20.
The Elmira men return to action on Tuesday, January 12th, as the Soaring Eagles visit the Buffalo State Bengals at 7:00 p.m.
