Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 guided EC past ninth-ranked Norwich University by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday at the MAC Ice Arena, as she had a hand in both of Elmira's goals.
With the game still scoreless in the second period, the Soaring Eagles went on the power play when Norwich's Maddie Tasha was penalized for interference. It took EC only 23 seconds to score the opening goal on the man advantage, as Durnell beat Cadet goalie Celeste Robert high from the right circle.
Originally from East Sussex, England, Durnell then earned an assist on the eventual game-winner, scored by Maddy Jerolman '19 at the 15:13 mark of the second period. The sophomore center skated behind the net and sent a wraparound backhander across the crease to Jerolman for the finish.
Durnell is now tied for third on the No.2 nationally-ranked Soaring Eagles with 10 points on three goals and seven assists, and is currently tied for sixth in the ECAC West with five power play points.
The Elmira women's hockey team returns to the Murray Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12th, for the third game of EC's current five-game homestand against No. 5/6 Amherst College.
