Sandro Aeschlimann '19 was a wall in the net, registering a total of 78 saves in 128:16 of ice time, as the Soaring Eagles skated to a 1-0-1 weekend against Utica College at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena.
The first-year netminder stood on his head in Friday's 2-2 draw with the Pioneers, making a career-high 54 saves, the most made by an EC goalie in a game this season. He made 21 stops in the third period alone and three more in overtime, with five of those saves coming with the Soaring Eagles down a man on a five-minute major penalty.
The Zäziwil, Switzerland, native made another 24 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena. He held the Pioneers scoreless for a span of 38:00 minutes between the first and third period. Aeschlimann recorded three stops after EC tied the game at 2-2 in the final minutes of the third to force the extra period.
Aeschlimann leads the Soaring Eagles with a .929 save percentage, 2.66 goals-against average and 484 saves. His save percentage ranks 22nd in all of NCAA Division III, while his save total is the third-highest in the ECAC West.
The Elmira men's ice hockey team will finish the regular season at ECAC West opponents Manhattanville College on Tuesday, February 16th, at 8:00 p.m., and Hobart College on Saturday, February 20th, at 4:00 p.m.
