Moorea Spoljaric '16 turned in one of the finest all-around performances in program history on Saturday, as the EC women defeated Wells College 21-11. The fourth-year scoring machine set single-game records for goals and points with an astounding 11-goal performance to guide the offense, just three shy of the NCAA Division III record for goals in a game.
Spoljaric opened scoring for the Soaring Eagles with a natural hat trick inside a three-minute span early in the first half. It was her 20th straight game with at least one goal and her 37th career multi-goal contest.
Her day didn't end there, however, as Spoljaric filled the stat sheet with a quadruple-double. The 5-foot-9 midfielder registered 11 draw controls, 11 caused turnovers and 10 ground balls. Her caused turnover total established another program record, while she recorded the most draw victories and ground balls in a game since the 2012 season.
There's no doubt Spoljaric is one of the most complete players in the Empire 8 Conference, and her stats to-date support her cause. Through Elmira's first three games of the 2016 season, the senior captain leads the E8 in every major statistical category outside of assists per game. She's averaging 10.33 shots, 7.00 draw controls, 6.33 points, 6.00 goals, 5.67 ground balls, and 5.67 caused turnovers per game.
Spoljaric and the EC women will open play inside the Empire 8 Conference this Wednesday, March 23rd, at 4:00 p.m. on the road at Ithaca College.
