Batting lead-off in the final stretch of the regular season, Mason Ryan '22 lead all qualified batters with a .320 average in six games, while pacing the Purple and Gold in hits (8), runs (7) and doubles (4). The rookie infielder had at least one hit in four of the team's six outings, including a pair of three-hit performances, and was successful on four of his five attempts stealing a base.
On Monday, April 29, at SUNY Canton, Ryan scored a run in a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the 'Roos. He played key roles in EC's wins over Keuka, an 8-7 walk-off on Tuesday, April 30, and Utica, a 10-4 triumph in the finale on Sunday, May 5. In both victories, the Endicott, New York, native posted a career-high three hits, and he established a new program record with three doubles against the Pioneers. In the suspended game against Utica from April 19 that was completed on Sunday, Ryan produced his fourth two-bagger of the week.
One of the most consistent players on the team throughout his debut campaign, Ryan, a former All-New York State selection at nearby Union-Endicott High School, finished 2019 with a .258 batting average. He was one of five Soaring Eagles to amass at least 30 hits, while leading the team in runs scored (20) and ranking third in RBIs (17).
