Already the active leader in kills at the NCAA Division III level, Erik Griffin '16 wasted no time moving into sole possession of first place on the program's all-time career kills list. The fourth-year outside hitter etched his name as the best hitter in Elmira history, as he recorded the first point of Thursday's match against Keuka College with his 1,441st career kill.
The Victor, NY, native finished the 3-1 victory over the Wolfpack with his fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. Then at the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Tri-Match, Griffin hit at a .324 clip against No. 10 Vassar College and an even more impressive 4.29 percent against No. 1 SUNY New Paltz. He had 19 kills against the Brewers and 17 more against the top-ranked Hawks.
The reigning American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Second Team All-American now has 1,486 kills in his illustrious career and leads the UVC with .429 kills per set on the season.
The No. 9-ranked Soaring Eagles wrap up the home portion of the 2016 schedule at Speidel Gymnasium with a 6:00 p.m. match against Juniata College on Monday.
