Maddy Johnson '19 has found a home batting second in the Elmira lineup and playing left field in her rookie season. Despite her youth, she has turned into an immediate impact player for the Soaring Eagles and leads the squad in several categories on the season.
In EC's Sunday doubleheader on the road at Stevens Institute of Technology, the Rome, PA, product extended her hit streak to eight consecutive games to open her debut season. In game one of the twin-bill, she recorded two hits in three at-bats, including a ground-rule RBI-double in the third inning. In the nightcap, she collected one hit, a run-scoring single in the sixth inning. Johnson also successfully stole her fourth base of the year.
The 5-foot-2 outfielder is one of five Soaring Eagles to start all eight contests to open the season and the only one to register a hit in every game. She paces the Purple and Gold with a .433 batting average, 13 hits, and four stolen bases. Her average ranks sixth in the E8.
The Soaring Eagles softball team returns home to Eldridge Park Stadium to host St. John Fisher College in Empire 8 action on Saturday, April 16th. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader will be at 1:00 p.m.
