Austin Mansell '16 finished last week with a 3-1 mark, while playing first doubles and second singles against Empire 8 Conference opponents Houghton College and Alfred University. He swept both of his matches against the Highlanders on April 15th, partnering with classmate Satchal Waters '16 to take down Chase Rangel and Jordan Crouch at first doubles, 8-4. He then defeated Crouch 6-3, 7-5 for his first victory of the season at second flight singles.
The following day, Mansell moved into a two-way tie with Patrick Tracey '18 for first place all-time in single-season singles victories. The West Lebanon, NH, native earned his 11th singles win of the year by beating Alfred's Mike Wisniewski in straight sets, as the Soaring Eagles pulled out a tight 5-4 road win against the Saxons.
On the season, Mansell boasts an 11-4 singles record and an 8-7 mark in doubles play. The fourth-year student-athlete sits second in program history in overall wins (62), singles wins (34), and doubles victories (29).
The Soaring Eagles continue play inside the Empire 8 with a home match against Hartwick College at the Murray Athletic Center on Sunday, April 24th, at 1:00 p.m.
