Nick Sampogna '18 has reinvented himself on the mound for the Soaring Eagles, solidifying his place atop the Elmira rotation. The second-year hurler earned his second victory of the season in the first of a three-game set against Houghton to help the Purple and Gold take their first-ever E8 series.
Originally from Verplanck, NY, Sampogna tossed 6.1 innings of two-run ball while fanning a season-high-tying seven Highlanders and issuing only one walk. Although he surrendered 10 hits, he was able to limit the damage and work his way out of several jams, stranding nine runners on base through the first six frames.
The right-hander paces Elmira's starting rotation with a 3.52 ERA in 38.1 innings of work in his sophomore campaign, ranking eighth in the conference in both categories. He's also seventh in the E8 with a team-high 33 strikeouts.
The EC baseball team welcomes Alfred State to historic Dunn Field on Tuesday, April 19th. First pitch for the non-conference contest is slated for 6:00 p.m.
