Originally from Albion, New York, Caitlin Malanowski '20 began her freshman campaign with the EC runners in tremendous fashion at the season-opening Alfred State Invitational on September 2nd. She paced all Soaring Eagles by placing seventh overall, as she completed the 5,000-meter course in 24:36.23.
Not only did Malanowski finish the first race of her EC career at the front of the Purple and Gold pack, her seventh-place finish is the second-best by any Soaring Eagle since the program's inception in 2014. Additionally, with Hannah Lundgren '18 unable to finish the course due to injury, Malanowski became the first student-athlete other than Lundgren to lead the Elmira women to the finish line.
The women's cross country team will continue the season at the 2016 Steven A. Warde Fighting Tiger Invitational, hosted by SUNY Cobleskill, on Saturday, September 10th.
