Freshman women's tennis phenom, Tilila El Yazidi '20, wrapped up the home portion of her first career season with three E8 matches at the Murray Athletic Center. She won all six of her matches at first singles and first doubles in that span to etch her name atop the program record books.
Following a sweep in the midweek match against Nazareth College on October 4th, El Yazidi broke a five-way tie with a pair of victories over Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 8th, to become the all-time single-season wins leaders in only her rookie season. Against the Ducks, seeded second in the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament, El Yazidi cruised to an 8-1 victory over Katrina Guido at first singles and partnered withÂ
Megan Fitzgerald '18 for an 8-4 first doubles win.
On Sunday, the Moroccan native grabbed another set of records, as her hard-fought three-set match over Hartwick College's Heidi Rice and Rose Natoli moved El Yazidi, and first doubles teammate Fitzgerald, into a tie for first in single-season doubles wins. Later in the afternoon, the EC rookie toughed out a three-set victory over Rice at first doubles, giving her the single-season record in that category as well.
With one non-conference match remaining on the fall schedule, El Yazidi boasts an outstanding 24-4 overall record and matching 12-2 records at both first singles and doubles. She finished play against E8 opponents with a 14-2 overall mark.
The Soaring Eagles will conclude the fall portion of the 2016-17 schedule with a 4:00 p.m. bout in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, against Lycoming College on Thursday, October 13th.
