Natalie Schieder '19 continued to lead the Elmira women's volleyball team, as the second-year standout recorded a pair of double-digit kill matches and her team-high 10th double-double of the season at this past weekend's Empire 8 Crossover.
Against the conference tournament-bound Golden Flyers, the sophomore outside hitter paced all players with 10 kills and a trio of service aces to go along with seven digs. However, it was her effort against Hartwick College that stood out the most, as the Alden, New York, native guided the Soaring Eagles to a straight-sets victory. EC had to overcome sizable deficits in each of the first two sets. In the second set, she registered back-to-back kills to knot the score at 16-all, and then broke a 17-17 tie with a kill and a block in consecutive games. In the third set, Schieder served a crucial ace to break a 25-25 tie, allowing the Soaring Eagles to secure the victory with the following point.
Over the weekend, Schieder finished with 20 kills, 25 digs, five service aces, and two solo blocks. With 10 kills and 18 digs in the victory over Hartwick, she picked up the 10th double-double of the season and the 22nd of her career. The reigning E8 All-Conference Honorable Mention selection currently leads the league in kills per set (4.05), while ranking eighth in both aces (.47) and digs (3.47) per set.
The Elmira women's volleyball team wraps up play inside Speidel Gymnasium for the 2016 season with Class of 2017 Recognition Day on Tuesday, October 25th, when the Soaring Eagles host the University of Rochester. The non-conference tilt will begin at 6:00 p.m.
