Eddie Nolan '17 tied his previous single-game career high with one goal and one assist for the men's ice hockey team in their 5-2 upset victory over No. 13/14 nationally-ranked Salve Regina University on Saturday. It marked just the second time the fourth-year defender finished a game with two points, with his first such outing coming in his freshman season.
The senior captain started the scoring play that gave the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 lead late in the first period, as he earned the secondary assist on a first-period goal from
Kenny Tencza '19 with a pass to
Tyler Theodoulou '18 out of the Elmira zone to center ice.
After the Seahawks clawed back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game at 2-2, a tremendous individual effort from Nolan allowed the Soaring Eagles to regain the lead for good. He picked off an errant pass at the blue line and carried the puck into the offensive zone down the left-wing side. With a head of steam, he blew past his defender into the left faceoff circle and beat Salve netminder Blake Wojtala glove-side for the eventual game-winning goal.
Not only did Nolan finish with his second multi-point game, but the game-winner was also the second of his collegiate career. The Dorchester, Massachusetts, native upped his season total to five points (2g, 3a), third-most on the EC squad among defensemen.
The Soaring Eagles will look to build off of their first nationally-ranked victory of the season on Saturday, January 21st, when the Purple and Gold kick-off a three-game series with Hobart College. The series opener, which will not count towards the ECAC West Conference standings, will be played on neutral ice in Skaneateles, New York, and is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
