Schmidt went 3-1 in her matches this week as the Women’s Tennis team went undefeated in two conference matches. EC downed Alfred 7-2 on Tuesday at home, before upending St. John Fisher 6-3 on the road on Saturday.
On Tuesday Schmidt and first doubles partner Melanie Walker ’13 (Scranton, PA -- Scranton) won 8-5. The sophomore from Batavia then defeated her opponent in straight sets at first singles, 6-1, 6-4. Saturday at Fisher Schmidt and Walker lost a tight 8-6 match at first doubles. However, Schmidt responded with a huge three set win at first singles prevailing 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (10-5).
After getting two huge conference wins this week the EC Women’s Tennis team is currently .500 with a 4-4 overall record and 3-3 in E8 play. The Soaring Eagles sit fifth in the standings half a game back of both Stevens and Hartwick (3-2). With one conference match remaining against Nazareth on Saturday Elmira will look to pick up a much needed win and try to finish in the top four to make the playoffs.
