The efforts of Emily Carlin '17 at the plate and in the pitcher's circle guided the Soaring Eagles to a trio of victories, beginning on April 17 with a doubleheader sweep against Alfred State in Alfred, New York. In the nightcap, she saved EC's 12-11 win with 0.2 scoreless innings of relief. In that game, she was also 1-for-1 with one walk and one run scored. In her next two starts, the Riverside, California, native threw a pair of complete games at Ithaca College on April 22 and against Stevens Institute of Technology on April 23. Although she took the loss to the Bombers, Carlin slugged her 12th career home run, second-most all-time in program history and just one shy of the record held by Erin Pruess '12 (13).
The senior utility player capped off her week with a strong outing in the nightcap against the Ducks on Sunday. Thanks to Carlin's career effort at the dish and tremendous pitching out of the bullpen, Elmira downed Stevens by a final score of 4-3, the first victory for the Purple and Gold over the Ducks since the 2013 season. She drove in all four of EC's runs and established a new single-game career high with four RBIs. In the pitcher's circle, she tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, surrendered just two hits, and struck out two en route to her third victory of the season.
Carlin is one of only four players on the softball team to start all 19 games this season. She's second on the team in hits (12), RBIs (10), extra-base hits (3), and on-base percentage (.400). Her on-base streak was extended to 15 consecutive games, the longest streak in her career and just two games shy of the longest such streak by a Soaring Eagle over the past four seasons. The Soaring Eagles will conclude play inside the Empire 8 this week, as Elmira hosts Houghton College at Eldridge Park Stadium on Wednesday, April 26. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
