Tommy Fogarty '20 had a hit in each of EC's two bouts during the E8 Championships, hitting at a .333 clip and finishing second among starters with a .500 on-base percentage thanks to a pair of walks. With two base knocks, the rookie from Wayne, Pennsylvania, lengthened his hitting streak to eight games, one shy of tying the longest such streak by any Soaring Eagles in 2017.
The freshman, who started both tournament games in right field, helped the Purple and Gold overcome an early deficit against Ithaca in the fourth inning. He followed up a Bellinger lead-off hit with a single of his own in the fourth and scored the eventual go-ahead run on an error, which at the time giving EC a 2-1 advantage. Fogarty also played a role in the near comeback on Friday against the No. 14 nationally-ranked Cards. His RBI single in the sixth was the third of four straight hits for Elmira to start off the inning and trimmed the SJFC lead down to 5-2. In the home half of the seventh, he was issued a full-count walk with the bases loaded to secure his second RBI of the day, cutting the deficit to just two runs.
If the 2017 campaign is any indication of Fogarty's future, the Elmira faithful can expect bright things from this first-year talent. He made 31 starts in his debut season and ranked second on the team with 34 hits and 19 RBIs, while finishing third among regulars with a .304 batting average.Â
