Alison Mariano '18 turned in the finest performance of her four-year EC career on Tuesday, October 10, when she guided the Soaring Eagles to a 6-3 victory over Wells College at the Murray Athletic Center. The senior forward led all scorers with a career-high five points on two goals, including the game-winner, and one assist, which helped ignite the offense to its highest-scoring game since the 2013 season.
The forward tallied both of Elmira's first-half goals against the Express, which put the Purple and Gold up 2-1 at the halftime intermission. Mariano needed approximately three minutes to cage her first goal, as she collected a pass from Janie Kempf '21 and poked the ball into the left corner past the Wells goalie. In the 30th minute, she broke a 1-1 tie by gathering her own rebound and firing her second-chance shot into the right corner of the cage. Mariano's second goal sparked a 4-0 run that saw EC grab its largest lead of the game, 5-1. Her assist was registered on Elmira's fourth goal, as she perfectly executed a give-and-go with Emily Selbert '20 off of a penalty corner, which set up Selbert to burry a shot into the upper 90.
On the season, Mariano has nearly doubled her entire offensive output from her first three collegiate seasons combined. The Walpole, Massachusetts, native has posted career highs in points (12) and goals (5), ranking second on the team in both categories.
Elmira will return to action this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center, as the Soaring Eagles are set to host Bryn Mawr College in a non-conference contest to conclude their season-long four-game homestand.
